HER NEW ORDER : Alex Noiret gets interviewed at Salon Benjamin

A few months back, dynamic duo Dylan Chavles & Alaina Manibog interviewed me for their creative project blog Her New Order at Salon Benjamin. Dylan is my lovely quirky sweetheart firecracker hair stylist, and Alaina is my bubbly cutie sweetheart colorist. Both create magic at Salon Benjamin- the best hair salon that I’ve ever been to. The walls are filled with art and the people are golden. To me, it’s not just a salon. It’s a place where I can relax and be surrounded by people that have almost become like family. I love and care for them and I feel that that is reciprocal.

In this interview, I answer questions (and cry out a few) about life, LA, and  the era I’d choose to live in if I could. Photographer Ammo shot beautiful film photos of the color-cut process. Welcome to Salon Benjamin. Welcome to Her New Order.

*** I want to thank Salon Benjamin, Benjamin Mohapi, Dylan Chavles, Alaina Manibog, and everyone that has been so loving and supportive of me. These guys are truly the best and have been there to see me grow through these past almost-two years. I am extremely thankful for them and they will always hold a special place in my heart.

“I have a lot of shitty days and a reputation for being the harbinger of misery.  Alex’s warmth and positivity somehow smothers my pessimism and replaces any negativity with newfound vibrancy.  She works hard at loving people just as much as she works on loving herself.  There is no lack of authentic joy for anything she lays her eyes on and you can’t help but smile when you say her name.  Alex came into the salon to get her hair done before flying off to Paris for vacation”

Are you happy?

Yes! I’m so happy!

Where are you from?

I’m originally from Paris, France, but I’ve been in LA 8 years now.

Who are you?

I am a lover of life first of all. I’m a fashion model. And I love anything that’s beautiful whether it’s cooking, or creative directing, or picking flowers, or making good cakes.

What do you want?

I just want to be happy.  I just want to stay happy and I want to fulfill my dreams and I want family.  I want to travel, and I just want to have a really full life.  A rich life.

If you could watch any movie right now what would it be?

That’s funny I’m really bad with movies, maybe a documentary that I haven’t seen because I love to learn new things.  Then again maybe a simple one like Mean Girls or something.

What did you spend your first paycheck on?

I remeber this!  My first paycheck… I worked for this clothing brand Revolve, and on set I had on these amazing Marc Jacobs shoes that had designs stitched into the leather on the heels.  That was my first big splurge.

Where would you buy a house in LA?

Actually my boyfriend and I were just dreaming of things.  I really like Echo Park.  I think it’s a nice mix.

What is one thing you would change about LA?

I would… I think I would like to have more transportation. In Paris it’s really nice to be able to walk everywhere.  There are lovely things about LA, but the one thing that’s hard for me is that its’ a city where you can always be surrounded by people but everyone is kind of alone.  I would somehow change the culture of that.

What keeps you here?

I learned to love it here. And I have so many people that love me here. I realized so many people support me. *cries*

What would you bring back from your hometown?

BAGUETTES!!!  I would take really nice French bread.

What does your new hair make you feel?

My new hair is everything.  I can walk out of the salon and feel like a brand new woman and just strut down the street.  It makes me feel expensive, it makes you feel like you’re worth it… that sounds like  L’Oreal thing.

What’s your favorite thing about yourself?

I love people. I love life.

When would you want to be born?

I often think I was born in the wrong era.  I love the Audrey Hepburn time where people dressed really nicely and took care of themselves.

What do you think you could do to make you even happier?

I think I could accept myself more fully and I think I could not be afraid to push myself harder.  I already push myself but I think I procrastinate too much and I think that’s a burden for me that I put on myself.  If I stopped procrastinating I would accomplish a lot more things and it would ease my soul kind of.  And learning to say no to things.
