Caméléon by Estelle Spirig
Hey guys! I want to start off by saying that I am so thankful for those that follow this blog, and I am so grateful to have the opportunity to share my thoughts and life updates with you. I have so many posts to post, and I am so excited to show you everything that is in the works.
BUT FIRST,
Here is a project that my beautiful friend and amazing creative photographer Estelle Spirig and I worked on for The Commission, along with hairstylist Anna Leigh Dunn. I loved working with these ladies. Estelle has such an interesting, magic dream-like vision that I only wish I naturally had like she does. You should definitely also check out her instagram @esteast to get more of an idea of how she sees the world. And then, Anna is a natural talent and can do the best cornrows I’ve seen and I’ve also known her for a few years now. She’s one of the sweetest people.
This project’s idea was to show how a person can transform into different characters. Isn’t it interesting to think about how a person can change so much depending on their outfits and makeup and personality? My name is Alex Noiret, I dress pretty simply but what if I were a really big hippy? That could also be me. It isn’t, but it is and it could be. It’s the same person but it’s NOT, which I thought was a really interesting concept. So, here you go! My favorite ones were the ones where I transformed into a boy, a grunge-rock chick, and finally, a more “street” girl.
What I felt most interesting was that with each outfit and look, I felt significantly different. As a boy for example I felt oddly more confident. My strides and steps felt different. I didn’t feel so dainty, which actually felt nice. My thoughts were “hey I’m this person. Yeah, I’m walking into this cafe. Yeah, I’m Alex and I’m a boy and no I’m not a girl, so whatever you think about my looks doesn’t matter. Yeah, I’m ordering a sandwich because I’m not dainty and I don’t need to order a salad to validate your thoughts about me”. It was oddly enough incredibly uplifting.
